The caravans are known for their high-quality finish and futuristic shape. Different models and sizes have evolved over the years, but the timeless design and aesthetics of the Airstream have made it a classic in the caravan sector.
Although I don't know anything about camping, I was familiar with the Airstream. I had even toyed with the idea of doing a shoot with one on Texel in Holland, but then decided against it due to the long journey and inconsistent weather in Holland.
Fun Fact: John Lennon and Yoko Ono owned an Airstream in the 1970s, using it as a mobile studio during the recording of their album "Imagine."
When I was with the XXL campers and the TV production was dragging on, the evening sun was already coming out from under the clouds when I got to the Airstream with Medea. The inside of the camper was still original, which is extremely rare these days. There was even a 50x50cm microwave. Totally weird.
I loved the rounded windows, the aluminum look with the rivets and the scuffed seat cushions. Funnily enough, it's the only shoot where I worked with a reflector.
Ex-model Michael stood far outside and lit up Medea for me with my golden sunbounce. As he later reported to his boss Lesz with a smile: "I took care of Medea's skin."
The fact that my chewing gum cigarettes (a gift from the goodie bag from the 50th anniversary Playboy event) had a rocket printed on them, of all things, was even more special for me. I was downright thrilled.
The camper has since been sold and has probably already been renovated. The pictures of the old state with Medea are already going down in history.
