And then came the thought. That damned, wonderful thought: This could be done so much more elegantly.
There are people who have such thoughts and then just keep scrolling. Normal people. People with functioning self-preservation instincts. I'm not one of them. I'm one of those creative types who needs a passion project the way other people need their morning coffee.
Three weeks later, I was still sitting at my computer, correcting the 387th blog article. By hand. Word for word. Sentence by sentence.
Of course, I used AI translations to help. But the results weren't good enough, so in the end I had to go through and correct each of the 553 articles individually. Two million characters. Considerably more work than I'd anticipated.
This is also why I've never started a garden, by the way. I know exactly how it would end: me standing there with Japanese maple trees and a hand-dug koi pond.
The interesting part: I found articles I'd completely forgotten about. Photo shoots in Fuerteventura when I was still shooting with a 1Ds Mark III. Year-in-review posts that got me emotional. And yes, that one article about pornography, where I wanted to double-check whether what I'd written still holds up today.
Now it's finished, my completely bilingual website. It automatically detects your browser preferences and serves you the right language. And if not, there's a switch at the bottom of the page to toggle to the other language. Simple as that. Not a flag emoji in sight.
More Updates
There's so much happening on my website right now that I can barely keep up with blog posts about it. And I'd love to write about everything! But at some point I really need to get out the door again, take photos and stuff. So here's the quick rundown: There's now a text search in the portfolio (finally!), a few nice new series are in there too, the blog search works really well now, and I actually only have 21 calendars left for 2026. I'm pretty happy with how everything's going. Now just need to get out of here.
