Iconic Rides: Mellow 34/35

The Bonanza bicycle featured a banana seat and was named in homage to the cool and rebellious style of chopper motorcycles. As a child, I had no idea about this. Consequently, the name Bonanza always puzzled me because there was this Bonanza Western TV series, and cowboys were supposed to ride horses, not bicycles.

The Bonanza bike wasn't just a means of transportation; it was, above all, a statement. After numerous phone calls with a dealer in Cologne, my journey led me to Hendrik, who truly made my trip to the past possible.

When we stood in the parking lot, and he unloaded the Italian chopper, I was amazed. Such a massive handlebar. A fork leaning at such an angle. This thing is truly a statement.

Sylphsia's first attempt to ride it

As Sylphsia gripped the chopper handlebars, it looked like she was attempting to endure a wild bull rodeo on a bicycle — not an easy feat in wedge sandals. Hendrik's Italian chopper with its tiny front wheel elevated the combination of coolness and impracticality to a whole new level. Even the fox tail I attached to the end of the bike seemed to be grinning, saying, "I'm here for the glamour, baby!"
