I limited this series to four photos, even though I really like the pictures. I particularly like Ary's blonde curls. And of course that Ary has such adorable long legs. Years ago, I wrote about the perfect leg-to-body ratio. Ary definitely scores points here.
I take between 800 and 1,500 photos during a shoot. Then I select the best 100 of them. Afterwards I break this selction further down, to the best 20. And for a photo book I have to reduce it even further. So that I don't have any repetitions in the book and the tension is maintained as you leaf through it.
When I put pages together for a book, it's always a game of contrasts and harmony. That creates a rhythm. And that results in a flow.

And so it also needs quiet moments, little breaks to allow other stories in the book to come to the fore again. This doesn't make the shorter double pages any less important.
If you want to emphasize everything, you don't emphasize anything.
To avoid repetition to my previous books, I don't have many beach photos in the book. However, I couldn't resist the fascinating contrast between the naked body and the pitch-black sand in one photo with Ary.
In retrospect, I wonder why we didn't actually record a video, but sometimes I'm so in the tunnel when I'm taking photos that I simply forget about it. I then concentrate so much on taking photos that the additional filming simply becomes too much for me.
