The sports car is so cool because it is so original. A small car, not very high, quite light and powerful in sound. When Hermann drove it along the country road, I immediately had a smile on my face.
He had given the car a fresh makeover for the shoot. New paint, a new rear window and even the tires were polished to a high gloss. The car has — as the only vehicle in the world — side-folding headlights, which are manually folded by a lever inside the vehicle. You can see it in my trailer. It makes quite a clunk and everything is mechanical.
The trunk is often spartan in sports cars. We all know that. But this car simply has no trunk. None at all. The tank is in the back.
When I saw Katerina's bush, I knew she would be perfect for a 70s car. This may sound made up, but I really did spend over a year looking for a suitable model for this shoot. You can't photograph every theme with every model. And with Katerina, everything really fit, because she also brought this 70s lightness and nonchalance with her. An adult attitude to life, where serenity and self-confidence come into their own.
Her naturalness, freshness and liveliness made it possible for me to do another shoot with a vehicle that doesn't look cheap. It's so easy to mess up this topic of cars and girls. And slip into cheapness. But I really like the genre, especially when I can do without embarrassing and old-fashioned images.
